When it came to updating the kitchen, bathroom, and mudroom of this classic 1948 colonial brick saltbox home in Wauwatosa, the owner wanted to increase the usable space and functionality, while also retaining its old charm. By keeping some of the features that add to the older style, like the classic style fixtures and brick exterior, and adding that to updated surfaces and cabinets, we were able to keep the home cohesive and nostalgic, while also creating more livable spaces for the owner.

Classic Style – The painted white crown molding, combined with the classic ogee-shaped mirror and the shaded wall sconces, wrap the room with tradition and finish the classic colonial look.

Kitchen Cabinet Space – Semi-custom painted cabinetry was added to the kitchen with ample space and features, including a closed appliance garage for dropping off keys and charging cell phones, a spacious pantry cabinet with roll-out shelves, another spacious pantry with adjustable shelves, glass doors for display, a wood cutlery drawer, an apron base sink cabinet, a microwave drawer cabinet, floating wood shelves, and a custom designed and built range hood with sides to the countertop. All of this helped to store away appliances and keep the countertops clear of clutter.
Beautiful Surfaces – The engineered hardwood flooring compliments the stunning quartz countertop that is finished with a low splash to the bottom of the windowsills, and full height above the range, creating a grand focal point.
Matching Hardware – The traditional-styled gooseneck faucet compliments the large farm sink, along with the farmhouse-styled wall sconce above, and the stunning gold cabinet hardware blends with the cool and warm tones of the room.
Colonial Style – Keeping the brick exterior in the space gives this space that old home colonial style.
